Portable Power: Goal Zero Collaborates With Gear Brands

Portable power guru Goal Zero launched its Solar Ready collaboration program this week. It gives outdoor companies the ability to integrate solar panels and power packs into their products.

For years, backpackers have rigged attachments for fold-out solar panels. The Goal Zero system syncs with backpack strap layouts and offers clip-in points on the lid and front of the pack for quick integration.

Gregory Mountain Packs , one of the first brands to partner with Goal Zero, introduced two new packs, the Stout and Amber, which accept the specially-designed solar panels.

Poler and Jackson Kayaks are two additional brands set to release products with solar compatibility soon.

Gregory notes that backpackers now “expect to have power in the backcountry for phones, cameras, and navigation.” This simple system, which is compatible with Goal Zero’s Nomad line of solar panels, gives gadget-loving hikers an easy option.

The eventuality of never having to go without power in the backcountry is quickly becoming a reality. Though no revolution, this program of brands working together is a further step toward solar becoming a norm on trips in the wilderness.
