A Day at the Maine Diner

A Day at the Maine Diner

Before leaving for seven months in Asia, I knew that I had to get my final New England lobster fix.  And for me, there’s only one place: the Maine Diner .

You know that I’ve extolled its virtues before.  It’s one of very few restaurants for which I’m willing to drive over an hour.  You can get lobster is so many forms — from rolls to stew to sandwiches to quiche to omelets.

Seafood chowder?  Probably one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life.  I get it every time I go.

I’m embarrassed to say that I devoured my lobster pie so quickly, I didn’t get a chance to take a picture until it was gone!  Well, there was lobster.  Lots of it.  And breadcrumbs.  And lots of melted butter.

Here’s the original video that I made about the Maine Diner this summer:

Since I’ve last written about the Maine Diner, the show has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  For my international readers, it’s a great show on Food Network about great classic American restaurants.

Here’s the video, and you get to see how they make both the seafood chowder and the lobster pie. Definitely worth a view if you have a few mintues.

This time, I brought my mom, who had never been.  She loved it.

Many thanks to Myles, one of the co-owners, who was wonderful to us yesterday!  I know I’ll be back as soon as I return from Asia this spring.
