WILDLIFE -- In this video, a mountain lion caught in a bobcat trap is released without being tranquilized by two Utah Wildlife Resources staffers.  This is gutsy work, considering the speed, power and agility of a cougar.  It's reality worth watching.

Although the cougar is clearly exhausted from its struggle, covering the eyes of the animal was the ultimate key to a successful injury-free release.

That lesson can be applied in many ways.

In several occasions over the years, I've had to remove porcupine quills from hunting dogs in the field.  Leashing the dog's neck snug against a tree, I would cover the dog's eyes before moving in with my Leatherman tool to pull each quill.  Works wonders.
