The Ultimate Car Museum: Dezer Collection in Miami

I can’t tell you if the Dezer Collection car museum is the biggest in the world or the most expensive by value, but I can say it’s a tough one for anybody to top.

In this month’s webzine story, No One’s too Sexy for Miami , I mentioned the Dezer Collection for its James Bond collection . It is reason enough to visit if you’re a Bond fan because not only does it have a whole bunch of vehicles used by 007, but also cases and cases of memorabilia, from cheap toys to expensive watches and pens. It’s enough to supply a year’s worth of Bond eBay auctions.

That’s just a tiny part of the 250,000 square feet of real estate here though, which comprises several warehouses filled with one man’s amazingly large and varied collection. As for the cars, they go from the early Ford days through every era in the history of the automobile. If that’s still not enough for you, there’s a military vehicle collection, vintage jukeboxes, and motorbikes (motorized bicycles, Vespa types, and Harleys).

There’s a whole dramatically lit Batman room with vehicles used in and for promotion of the various movies and the original TV show. Another huge area has more cars used in movies, like Back to the Future, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Ghostbusters, Inspector Gadget, Austin Powers, and The Flintstones.

I have to admit though that the section making me smile the most was an incredibly collection of mini cars from Europe . Some of these look like one step up from toys, but they’re so cute! I’d love to drive one around my neighborhood for a day and see what kind of looks I got.

The Dezer Collection is on North 146th St., about 15 minutes from South Beach,a few minutes from Bal Harbour. Admission is listed at $40 adult/$25 seniors/$15 kids to see the whole collection, but there are discounts for Florida residents and on Fridays. I’ve heard there are discount coupons at some Miami tourist brochure kiosks as well. Whatever you end up paying, if you’re into cars you’ll be in heaven here and even if you’re not, it’s still loads of fun.
