In my book Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune , I tried to lead each chapter off with an appropriate quote that went beyond the Mark Twain norm. There’s one from the Chinese author Lin Yutang that I particularly love:
If you can spend a perfectly useless afternoon in a perfectly useless manner, you have learned how to live.
Unfortunately, judging by the profusion of crackberries and always-answered cellphones around us, most have not learned how to live.
It’s hard, but I try to switch off when I can. I will be visiting my father over the next few days of this holiday season, so adios. May your new year present lots of time for reflection and aimless afternoons.
