WINTERSPORTS -- The National Weather Service and the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center have issued an avalanche warning for today for the mountains of North Idaho, including Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah and Shoshone counties.
The warning of "high" avalanche danger is in effect through midnight.
Dirty rain?
Also, the weather service in Spokane said it is looking into the source of the dirty rain that fell this morning, leaving milky-colored water along streets today. One theory is that volcanic ash from Mexico got entrained in the storm system, forecasters said.
The Colima and Popacatepetl volcanoes, the two most active in Mexico, spewed large columns of ash and gas on Wednesday. Popocatepetl, southeast of Mexico City, registered 60 explosions in 24 hours.
